This is an overview of what is Vaastu , How should an house be designed according to Vaastu and where lies what ?
Vaastu Shastra is a classical architecture science of designing homes.It focuses on the Setting up of homes with much importance given to natural elements positioning them so as to bring well being and prosperity.
This philosophy or ancient practise is based on the concept of flow of cosmic energies through physical structures influencing the inhabitants health, wealth and happiness.
Though it is not religiously linked but it is quite followed by many even in modern times.The vaastu shastra is supposedly been derived from the Sthapatya Veda, which is known as upveda of the Atharvaveda.
This is applicable for houses, commercial establishments and even apartments. We hereby list a few important aspects to consider while constructing a house or purchasing a property etc.
Entrance

According to the vedic science, the entrance to any establishments should be facing either North, East and North-East. These directions are auspicious and bring good luck to the establishment. This can also be backed by science or nature as the Sun rises in east , thus ensuring the income of its rays into the house making it well lit.
However, there are remedies , if in case the entrance direction is either in the west or south for houses. It should be ensured that there are no furniture or walls facing the door. This includes, placing dustbins or broken furniture, decor items,footwear etc.
The foyer passage walls can be painted with colours which are said to bring positivity such as white , beige, shades of brown etc. Some of the decor items such as Wind chimes, A buddha idol, an Aquarium , an tortoise idol can be kept as they remove obstacle or negative energy. Even flowing water containing decor piece or artificial waterfall also does the magic.
The living room should be illuminated as much during the day with natural sunlight and have good amount of air flowing through the space. Since it is a gathering of people at home, of family, friends and foes, it is preferable to have the living room designed and decorated in the east or north direction. TV can be placed ideally in the South-East corner and the seating arrangement could face south or west and possible at a certain height above the ground. The colours as suggested by Vaastu is white, green, blue or light yellow for walls of the space.
Pooja Room
This should be ideally be located in the north east corner. Nowadays we see pooja rooms being located in the living room in the North East Corner .Pooja unit is placed in this corner with certain storage in flats and at Houses being built a separate room is constructed in this space.God’s Idols must face the east when worshiping and ensure they are in good condition.
Kitchen
Heart of the house where food which gives health is prepared. Southeast direction is most auspicious for Kitchen. Even the gas stove or cooking machines have to be in this direction. It is suggested to face east while cooking in the East direction. While choosing colours for the kitchen , opt for yellow, orange or red colours for the walls. These measures ensures continuous flow of food grains and essentials and good health. This space needs to be well lit at all times.
Bedroom :
After all the hardwork, everyone deserves rest be it a homemaker or a salaried employee or a businessman. To ensure better health and sleep, the bedroom, especially the master Bedroom.It has to be in the southwest direction and bigger than the other bedrooms. One must avoid sleeping with one’s head in the north direction.
Electronic devices such as PC, TV needs to be avoided, but essential goods such as heater, ACs need to be placed in the South East Direction. Mirrors at the dressing table in the bedroom shouldn’t face the bed as it is said to bring health issues of the part reflecting the mirror.
Study Room/ Work Space:
This room should be placed in the North, West or East direction of Home. One must face the East or North while studying or working. There should be sufficient distance between the wall and the study table.
The walls of this room should be painted in light colors such as white or light yellow and should be clutter-free.
